How ILA Works

ILA is a hybrid or University Model program that meets twice a week on Monday and Wednesdays at our Coast Hills Church venue in Aliso Viejo and once a week on Thursdays at our second venue, Carlsbad Community Church in Carlsbad from 8:30am to 3:40pm.

What is unique about our program is that you, the parent, get to individually pick and choose the classes that you want your K-12th grade students to take. We have over 100 classes to choose from taught by very dedicated, engaging, and hard-working teaching professionals. Whether you want to take one class or all of your core and elective classes at ILA, you can build your child’s schedule to fit and accommodate his or her own academic and creative needs. Our program accommodates both charter and non-charter students and offers a Private School Satellite Program (PSP) to interested high school students.

In addition, to the excellent scholastic quality of our classes, we have a thriving community of homeschooling families and students who are very friendly, outgoing, and who enjoy having community with one another in classes, at recess, and the various clubs and organizations that ILA offers. We also have annual field trips to the Ocean Institute Pilgrim Ship and Emerald Bay’s Science Camp along with other coordinated trips to local educational and cultural sites.  Our ILA social coordinators do a great job making Mondays and Wednesdays fun with Crazy Hair Day, Harvest Dress Up Day, Christmas Party celebrations, Christmas Village Fundraisers, and many other monthly social events for all students to enjoy.

Our website is set up to provide you with all of our course offerings, teacher bios, and registration capabilities. As you select classes to build your student’s schedule, please note that we also offer up to two study hall periods per K-8th grade student along with a lunch time and recess.   High School students, grades 9-12, are able to schedule more study halls if needed in their schedule.

All of our teacher contact information is posted on our website, and we encourage you to contact them with specific questions regarding their classes and curriculum. If you have any questions regarding ILA or would like to schedule a tour please email us on the website contact form, and we look forward to assisting you. We feel very blessed to have this program and our families here with us at the Independent Learning Academy, and we look forward to meeting you and having you join us!
